New York, NY (January 14, 2019) – Dr. Nandita Dinesh (T.I.E.’s Catalyst) today announced that she has entered into a partnership with Adrienne Unae (T.I.E.’s Incubator) to introduce participants across the country to aesthetics of Immersive Theatre, as inspired by the award-winning work Information for/from Outsiders: Chronicles from Kashmir. T.I.E. programs span a 48-hour time frame —  Friday evening to Sunday morning — and include a live, immersive, comedic whodunit performance,  a 24-hour devised theatre workshop, and curated opportunities for participants to build longer-term collaborations. In so doing, T.I.E. seeks to inspire individuals and groups to explore the potential of theatre in responding to questions of social (in)justice, and to enable its participants to acquire knowledge about the demands of performing in, directing, and designing for participatory /immersive theatrical environments.

For both Dr. Dinesh and Ms. Unae, the desired outcome is to learn more about the issues that different individuals/communities are facing across the country, and to share their skills in theatre: with the hope that these strategies will become useful in the participants’ long-term quests of giving creative voice to their struggles. T.I.E. experiences will take place one-weekend-a-month, from June through December 2019, in select North American cities. No prior theatre experience is needed.

Since 2005, Dr. Dinesh has been committed to exploring the potential and limitations of theatre in contexts of conflict. This work has taken Dr. Dinesh from Internally Displaced Peoples’ camps in Uganda, to community halls in Nagaland; from juvenile detention centers in New Mexico, to theatre spaces in Northern Ireland; from army cantonments in Kashmir, to touring theatre festivals in Guatemala. Dr. Dinesh is incredibly excited to partner with Ms. Unae on T.I.E. “In Adrienne, I see a partner who can help take the ideas of T.I.E. to a larger and more diverse platform than I could on my own”, Dinesh said. “Our complementary skill sets are underscored by a unity of vision: a vision in which we seek to constantly push boundaries when thinking about how the performing arts can respond to the most pressing issues of our time”.

Doctoral candidate and triple-threat performer Adrienne Unae is known in the liturgical dance, theatre, and television industries for faith-based service/missions, comedic immersive whodunit dinner theatre, and network television day player roles.”I am very excited to work with Dr. Nandita Dinesh”, Unae said. She also stated, “Teaming up with her to provide a weekend conference that features a 24-hour-long theatre workshop is an exciting development for my company. All participants will leave this workshop with a more nuanced understanding of Immersive Theatre, and of the issue that the participant group has chosen for their workshop. This partnership reflects my desire to collaborate with companies that share my vision. This partnership underscores my organizational commitment to enhance social, life, impulse control, and anger management skills of “underserved” and “at-risk” youth/women.”

During the Friday evening to Sunday afternoon T.I.E. programs, Dr. Dinesh will take the lead on the 24-hour-long workshop while Adrienne Unae will deliver content that encompasses — but is not limited to — the performance of a live immersive comedic whodunit, and the curation of opportunities for participants’ personal development and socialization.
